Medical plan options

PayPal offers a variety of medical plans for you to choose from, depending on where you live:

All of PayPal’s medical plans cover in-network preventive care services, like screenings, immunizations, and exams, at 100% — so you pay nothing for these services. The plans differ in how much you pay when you get care, how much you pay in paycheck contributions, and how much flexibility you have in choosing providers and receiving care.

Watch your mail for your ID cards. Your medical plan provider will send ID cards for you and your covered dependents who are over the age of 18. Meritain Health members will receive a combined ID card for their medical plan and CVS Caremark prescription drug benefits.

Accolade personalized support

Accessing health care can be confusing, complicated, and costly, but Accolade is here to help. Accolade is the first place to turn to whenever you have a health benefits question. Your Health Assistant will take the time to get to know you, understand your needs, and provide support with your PayPal benefits. You also have access to:

Accolade Care — virtual care by phone or computer day or night! Get support for urgent care needs, or see the same doctor or therapist virtually for ongoing care. What you pay for care depends on your medical plan’s benefit level.

Accolade 2nd.MD — expert medical opinion services whenever you feel unsure about a diagnosis or treatment plan. Accolade will arrange for you to speak with a leading specialist at no cost.

Accolade is completely confidential and provided at no cost to you.

Need help deciding which plan is right for you? Accolade Health Assistants can walk you through each plan and help you decide which one is right for you. You can also use the Medical Plan Cost Estimator to get an idea of your annual costs under each medical plan, based on services you and your family may use during the year and estimated annual costs of in-network care in your area.

Prescription drugs

All medical plans include prescription drug benefits. The level of coverage and how much the plan pays for your prescriptions depends on the medical plan you choose. The Kaiser HMO plan and HMSA plan manage their own prescription drug benefits, while CVS Caremark provides prescription drug benefits for participants covered under Meritain Health (an Aetna company).

Dental and vision options

You have two dental plan options to choose from through Delta Dental: Core and Enhanced. Both plans cover preventive, basic, and major care. The Enhanced plan also includes orthodontia care. After you enroll in coverage, Delta Dental will send you an ID card.

You also have two vision plan options through VSP: Core and Enhanced. Both plans cover eye exams, lenses and frames, and contacts. They differ in how they pay for services. You can choose to get care at retailers such as Costco, Walmart, Visionworks, and Cohen’s Fashion Optical, which are part of the VSP network. Unlike medical and dental, you won’t receive a vision ID card; just tell the doctor’s office that you’re a VSP member when you make your appointment.

Note: The HMSA medical plan includes dental and vision coverage.

HSA, FSA, and HRA

Depending on the medical plan you enroll in, there are three benefits that can help you pay for eligible health care expenses.

A Health Savings Account (HSA) is an account that lets you save pre-tax dollars to pay for health care expenses. You can open and contribute to an HSA if you enroll in the Meritain Consumer Directed Health Plan (CDHP). PayPal contributes to your account too! Use your HSA money to pay for qualified medical expenses, including deductibles and copays, prescriptions, and over-the-counter medications — or keep it for future expenses, even those you incur in retirement.

A Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) helps Meritain Copay Plan members pay for eligible health care expenses. Your pre-tax contributions can be used to pay for doctors’ visits, prescription drugs, dental or vision expenses, and over-the-counter medications. You contribute to your account through pre-tax paycheck contributions. Note: If you enroll in the Meritain CDHP with HSA, the Health Care FSA becomes a Limited Purpose FSA that can be used for dental and vision expenses only.

If you enroll in the Meritain Copay Plan and are in Grade level 15–19, a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) is automatically opened for you and completely funded by PayPal. An HRA helps you pay for eligible medical expenses, like coinsurance and your deductible.
